“These Whiskey Mornings ain’t what they used to be”

The latest single, ‘Whiskey Mornings’, from Irish singer-songwriter, David Hope, is a song dedicated to hangovers as one gets older. Hope explains:

“Once up on a time in your twenties after a session on the drink, all you needed was a few hours sleep followed by a breakfast roll and you’d be right as rain! Now being over forty, hangovers start at 6am with what feels like a St. Patricks Day Parade route through your head - the daylight hurts, Paracetamol doesn’t work and a day of misery and self-loathing is all you’ve to look forward to!”

The track was recorded at Monique Studios in Midleton, Co. Cork. The single was engineered and produced by the renowned Christian Best, who also provides percussion for the track. The track has a breezy, good vibe feel in spite of its dark overtones, as it leaves the listener dancing and singing along to the bizarrely catchy “Tryin’ to be good” refrain.

lyrics

Whiskey Mornings

These whiskey mornings ain’t what they used to be
Drop kick from the daylight creeping up on me.
I don’t know why but the middle of the night is when I find the
Time to think and put the world to right.
But the best laid plans of mice and men disappear
With the dawn I’ve to start over again

I’m just tryin’ to be good
Just tryin’ to be good.

Too much coffee got my heart beating like a drum
Been searching the shadows waiting for the shroud of death to come
And with a devil on my shoulder and an angel in my bed
Been setting fires in my soul, watch em burning through my head
With a world of good intentions and plans for living clean
The traffic lights are red but I’m driving like they’re green

I’m just tryin’ to be good
Just tryin’ to be good

New beginnings never happen and Mondays don’t arrive
It’s like a slow suicide, with no note to say goodbye

These whiskey mornings ain’t what they used to be
Just tryin to be good
These whiskey mornings ain’t what they used to be
Just tryin to be good
These whiskey mornings ain’t what they used to be
Just tryin to be good
